I’m Kate, I help creative people understand and share their point of view.

I am a creative development specialist who develops talent and new work through directing, teaching, coaching, casting and writing.

For the better part of the last decade, I have been the Founder of and Lead Casting Director at Kate Lumpkin Casting, CSA. Collectively, as a casting professional, I have worked on over 40 TV/Film productions and 80 theatrical productions in New York City and across the USA including shows at The Kennedy Center, The Actors Theatre of Louisville, The A.R.T, NYTW and many others. I teach workshops in New York and at numerous Colleges and Universities all over the world — and am currently an Asst. Professor of Musical Theatre at James Madison University.

In addition to casting, directing, and coaching, some of my life adventures have led me to work as the VP of Marketing and PR for a major private consulting firm, spend time working at an elementary school in Tanzania, tour the country singing+dancing, and work in development for National Geographic. I hold a degree in Anthropology and Folklore from Indiana University and am a graduate of The William Esper Studios where I trained in the Meisner Technique.

When I am not working, I am a passionate activist, an avid traveler, lover of iced-coffee, and can often be found playing D&D or watching British period dramas on repeat.

“If you’re not going to make the world a better place, then what are you doing here?”

Over the last 15 years, I have built my career on one simple principle: champion the curious. I dig deep, find true originals, align them to create strong groups, and help creativity thrive through detail-oriented strategic development and highly personalized education. As a scholar of both Anthropology and Drama, I understand the powerful potential of a community of storytellers, and have focused my career on working towards cultivating practices that create healthy, whole, inclusive, and thriving artistic and educational communities of all sizes. I am very proud to have built and implemented great change in the entertainment industry, while pushing for powerful and public conversations surrounding the way students and professionals of all ages approach navigating this highly personal work in professional and educational spaces.

cheers,

K
